Community Training Center
Mercy Medical Center is recognized by the American Heart Association as a Training Center for its programs in Basic Life Support (CPR Courses), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). These courses are taught by certified American Heart Association instructors affiliated with the Mercy Medical Center Training Center.
The Basic Life Support courses, which include Adult and Pediatric CPR, and Public Access Defibrillation, are offered to the staff of Mercy Medical Center, to staff from other health care facilities, and to the community at large. Bilingual instructors also offer the CPR program in Spanish from the Training Center. The ACLS and PALS courses are offered to health care providers such as nurses, physicians, physician assistants and EMS personnel.
The Training Center Coordinator is Claire DeSetto, RN, and the Training Center Medical Director is Joseph Sciammarella, MD. In 2010, the Training Center at Mercy Medical Center trained a total of 2,931 people in the various programs, making it the fifth most active Training Center in the American Heart Association’s Long Island Region.
