Friends of Mercy Medical Center
The Friends of Mercy was founded in 1935 as an organization of men originally dedicated to volunteering their time and efforts to raise funds for the construction of a new hospital building and advancement of medical and surgical care for the patients of Mercy Hospital, now known as Mercy Medical Center.
Although members of the Friends focus, first and foremost, on raising funds for the facilities, programs and services at Mercy, they also find friendship and recreational opportunities as an added dividend of membership.
The Friends raise funds for Mercy through the sponsorship of four annual benefits. Starting with the Gentlemen’s St. Patrick’s Dinner in March, onto the fun Luau held in June, to the Mercy Golf Outing in September and ending with a bang at the Mercy Ball, held on the first Saturday in December. The big highlight at the St. Patrick’s Dinner is when the Friends present the proceeds of their previous year’s fundraising activities to Mercy’s CAO. The Luau is a fun night of laughter and casual dress held at the Ocean Club in Atlantic Beach. The Golf Outing is always held on a pristine golf course and offers a great day for all who attend. Finally, the Mercy Ball is a prestigious event that has become the traditional kick-off for Long Island’s holiday social season.
