Making a planned gift is a wonderful way to show your support and appreciation for Mercy Hospital and its mission while accommodating your own personal, financial, estate-planning and philanthropic goals. With smart planning, you may actually increase the size of your estate and/or reduce the tax burden on your heirs. Just as important, you will know that you have made a meaningful contribution to ensure the future of Mercy Hospital.

Securities

Gifts of appreciated securities may offer substantial tax advantages. These include forgiveness of the tax on capital gain and an income-tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities.

A Bequest in Your Will

Specific-Amount Simple Cash Bequest
Specific bequests are used to make a gift of a specific dollar amount or specific asset (such as securities or real estate).

I hereby give, devise and bequeath to Mercy Hospital (include Mercy’s full Address) federal tax ID number 55-0813603 sum of $________________ for its general purposes, specific programs, a designated specific purpose.

As an alternative to writing “for its general purposes,” you may prefer to state: “for its most immediate priorities as determined by the trustees of the Hospital in their sole discretion.”

Residuary Percentage Bequest

Residuary bequests are used to give all or a portion of the remainder of your estate after payment of expenses and any specific amounts designated to other beneficiaries.

I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to Mercy Hospital, (1000 N. Village Ave. Rockville Centre, NY 11570), federal tax ID number 55-0813603, ____ percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate for its general purposes.

An Important Provision

Over a long period of time, Mercy Hospital programs or departments may change from when you made your original designation. Adding the following provision allows us to honor your original intent as closely as possible and prevents your gift from being unusable.

“If Mercy Hospital, in its sole judgment, determines that the original intent is no longer feasible, the Hospital may apply my gift and its income for the Hospital’s most immediate needs as will most closely fulfill the original intent.”

Memorial Tributes: Give a Lasting Gift

Families and friends of loved ones who have passed away often wish to make a gift in memory of someone special. Gifts can also provide a special opportunity to honor a family member or friend or to honor a special event in someone’s life. Mercy Hospital will send out a memorial or tribute card to the person specified and no mention will be ever made of the gift amount.

Please contact Temra K. Taylor, executive director of the Mercy Medical Center Foundation, at 516-705-1399 for more information.

The Garden of Caring is the central courtyard of Mercy Hospital's North Pavilion. Established through the efforts of The Council of Leagues, the Garden of Caring provides a place for remembering, healing and hospitality. Families gather with patients and visitors and employees take a break in a setting of quiet and reflection.

You can support the Garden of Caring through donations for tree-leaf plaques, commemorative tablets, trees, planters and other landscaping as well as tables, benches and other furniture. All items can be inscribed as a tribute to honor or memorialize a loved one.

Please contact Ivelise Cabrera, development associate of the Mercy Medical Center Foundation, at 516-705- 2620 if interested in supporting our Garden of Caring.

Council of Leagues

Since their founding in 1915, when ladies from Hempstead sold linens on the lawn of Mercy Hospital to raise funds for the work of the Sisters, the Leagues of Mercy have been among the outstanding auxiliary organizations in New York State. They raise significant funds each year for capital improvement projects at Mercy Hospital through local fundraising events as well as the hospital's gift shop and support of the annual Tree of Lights.

The Council of League hosts an annual Tree of Lights Celebration at Mercy Hospital each December. The tree lighting always brings a spirit of community and ushers in the season of hope, peace, joy and love. You can help support the event by naming a holiday decoration in memory of, in honor of, or in celebration of a special person or event.

The names of all gifts are recorded in the Tree of Lights Commemorative Book of Honor that is displayed in the Mercy Chapel throughout the holiday season.

Office of Development Events

Throughout the year we host special events to help raise funds for Mercy Hospital.

United in the fight against breast cancer, Mercy's Annual Ladies Night Out raises funds for the enhancement of the Women's Imaging Center at Mercy Hospital. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women and 1 in 8 women on Long Island will face a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. Your gift today will allow us to continue to provide the latest breast screenings, education, counseling, and procedures for women in our community.
