Swim Across America Support of MIRACLE PAVILION At Mercy Medical Center Tops $1 Million

(December 01, 2006 -- Rockville Centre, NY) - Mercy Medical Center recently accepted a check for $180,000 from Swim Across America, Nassau/Suffolk’s Director, Gerry Oakes, bringing the group’s support of Mercy’s “M.I.R.A.C.L.E.” Pavilion since 2001 to over $1 million.
The pavilion is home to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Nassau County, where MSKCC provides radiation oncology and medical oncology services to Long Island residents, sparing them the need to travel to Manhattan to benefit from the center’s world-renowned cutting-edge care. Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s facility at Mercy, which will handle more than 30,000 patient visits each year, provides the resources to make a proper diagnosis, establish the extent of the disease, and to deliver the appropriate therapy.
Founded in 1987, Swim Across America, Inc. (SAA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through a variety of high profile, swim-related events. SAA-Nassau Suffolk has raised over $1.75 Million for their Beneficiaries by hosting ‘Swims to Fight Cancer’ at local pools and their Annual ‘Sound to the Cove Swim’ in Long Island Sound based at Morgan Park in the City of Glen Cove. They are an active and concerned group whose members live on Long Island and share the love of swimming and desire to make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer in our community.
