MERCY SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
Six Grants For Students Studying Careers In Healthcare
(Rockville Centre, NY) - The
Council of Leagues of Mercy Medical Center has presented its
annual Sister Mary Grace Memorial Scholarships, providing one-time
grants for six students in financial need who are studying careers
in healthcare.
The scholarships, which over the years have ranged from $500
to $2,000, are awarded in memory of Sister Mary Grace, who served
as Moderator of the Leagues for many years and encouraged individuals
to pursue compassionate service to the sick.
The recipients for 2007 are:
- Catherine Belmonte of Valley Stream, a single mother of
two who is an undergraduate at Adelphi University and working
towards a master’s degree in social work.
- Heidi Haskell of Lake Ronkonoma, a single parent working
towards an associate’s degree in nursing at Suffolk Community
College, with the goal of earning an R.N.
- Alexandria Kendrick, a 2007 graduate of Baldwin High School,
who has enrolled in the Biomedical Engineering Program at
Nassau Community College.
- Adrina McCreary, a graduate of Freeport High school, who
has enrolled in the nursing program at Bloomfield College
in New Jersey.
- Ernesto Moya of Uniondale, a behavioral health assistant
in the Senior Network Program of Mercy Medical Center’s Behavioral
Health Services Day Programs, who is a studying nursing at
Nassau Community College.
- The Rockville Centre Economic Opportunity Council scholarship
program, which provides financial support for high school
students going on to college.
