FREE PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING
AT MERCY MEDICAL CENTER
Hospital Offers October 24th Screening For
Most Common Internal Organ Cancer In American Men
(Rockville Centre, NY)
- Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre is offering a free
prostate cancer screening for community residents on Wednesday,
October 24th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the hospital’s St. Anne’s
Center.
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in
American men, other than skin cancer, with the American Cancer
Society estimating that there will be more than 200,000 new
cases in the United States this year. Prostate cancer is the
second leading cause of cancer death in men behind lung cancer,
and projected to take more than 27,000 lives this year.
However, with early diagnosis and treatment, the American Cancer
Society says that although one of out every six men will develop
prostate cancer during his lifetime, only one man in 35 will
die of the disease. More than two million men in the United
States who have had prostate cancer at some point are still
alive today. And the death rate for prostate cancer is going
down, as the disease is found earlier.
There is no charge for the screening, but advance registration
is required.
