Mercy Medical Center Excels in Patient Safety

Rockville Centre, NY – Mercy Medical Center received an “A”—the top grade in patient safety—in the latest Hospital Safety ScoreSM, administered by The Leapfrog Group. Of the more than 2,500 hospitals across the U.S. assigned scores for fall 2015, only 30.5% achieved an “A”. This is the third “A” Mercy has garnered.

“Mercy is dedicated to providing the best care possible to our community,” said Mercy’s Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Ron Steimel. “This commitment is evident in the most recent ‘A’ rating for patient safety provided at Mercy.”

Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single A, B, C, D or F score, representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm.

In 2015, the Bronze-level Beacon Award for Excellence was presented to Mercy’s Intensive Care Unit by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Mercy also received PRI’s Risk Management and Patient Safety Best Practices Award for 2015. Mercy was ranked a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the U.S., for two consecutive years. This is in addition to earning the Pathway to Excellence® designation from the American Nursing Credentialing Center and the Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus award.
