Every day of the year, Mercy’s patients benefit from the dedication of over
400 volunteers, who willingly donate their services to help those in need of a
kind word or a caring touch. Services provided by our volunteers include, but
are not limited to:
Cancer Care Volunteers
Volunteers are specially trained to provide
support on our Cancer Care Unit, assisting the professional staff with patient
care, office work and general support of families.
Silver Spoons
These very special volunteers provide assistance to
patients needing help at meal times.
Stephanie J. Kahn Listening Therapy Program
Volunteers distribute
audio cassette recordings of popular books, magazines, old time radio shows
and inspirational material to our hospital patients who may be unable to read
due to physical or visual limitations. This service provides a therapeutic
adjunct to medical care providing enjoyment, comfort and diversion to our
patients.
Thrift Shop
Located at 395 Peninsula Boulevard, volunteers staff
our thrift shop, with all profits benefiting Mercy.
Volunteer Transport
Volunteers use hospital cars to transport
patients with limited resources to Mercy Medical Center’s treatment centers,
such as to radiology physical rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, respiratory
therapy and cardiac rehab.
General Services
Whether it’s providing support in one of the above
special programs, or by comforting the families of ER patients,
giving directions at the front desk, or working in a business
office, Mercy’s volunteers are there to make the hospital
stay easier, and even more cheerful. Mercy and our patients
are most grateful for our volunteers’ selfless and devoted
service. We truly appreciate all they do for us. For
