Visiting Hours

VISITING HOURS

Visiting hours and procedures are designed to provide and maintain a safe, caring environment that is conducive to patient care while considering the patient's needs for interaction with family and friends.

Please scroll down this page for specific Visiting Hours on each patient unit.

GENERAL VISITOR INFORMATION

  • Visitors must be twelve (12) years of age or older. Exceptions for children under the age of 12 will be made on a case-by-case basis. Permission for visitors will be granted by the unit manager/designee or Nursing Supervisor on the off shifts and weekends. Adult visitors are responsible for the supervision of visiting children at all times.
  • Each patient and/or support person will be notified of their visitation rights, any clinical restrictions on those rights and their right to receive any visitors they designate. In accord with government regulations Mercy does not restrict or deny visitation privileges on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability; and endeavors to ensure that all visitors enjoy full and equal visitation privileges consistent with patient preferences.
  • Appropriate behavior is expected of all visitors, including control of noise level, restriction of food brought from outside unless specifically requested, no smoking, and adherence to isolation precautions, if appropriate. Cellular phones may be used only in designated area.
  • Use of patient-owned equipment is restricted. Devices deemed necessary per physician order, must be inspected by the Biomedical Engineering Department.
  • Facilities and materials for protecting visitors from infected patients are supervised and maintained by the Nursing staff. Protective barrier materials will be available to visitors where required.
  • Only two visitors at a time are permitted at the patient's bedside for patient safety and roommate privacy considerations. However, individual patient needs and special considerations are always given priority attention. Security personnel are available to assist unit staff should crowd-traffic control or specific visitor behavioral issues arise.
  • Visiting or communications restrictions may be requested by the patient, patient's next of kin, or a health care agent. The restrictions are evaluated for their therapeutic effectiveness. Any restrictions on communications are fully explained to the patient and family, and are determined with their participation. The justification for any restrictions is documented in the medical record.
  • The visiting hours for the hospital and or specific units are subject to change due to recommendations from the New York State Department of Health, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevnetion and particular unit or hospital-based situations.
  • Requests for overnight stay by family / support person will be considered on a case-by-case-basis.
  • Food service for visitors is available in the Dining Room on the lower level of the North Pavilion Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and in the Patio Grill coffee shop in the main corridor off the lobby Monday-Friday 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 pm. and on weekends and holidays 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
