St. Francis Heart at Mercy Medical Center

The newly opened St. Francis Heart Center at Mercy Medical Center, led by a team of world-renowned interventional cardiologists from St. Francis Hospital, will give residents along Nassau County’s south shore access to lifesaving cardiac procedures like percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). PCI uses a catheter to place a stent to open the heart’s blood vessels that have been narrowed by plaque buildup.

The Center will also enhance our existing diagnostic catheterization program by offering immediate cardiac care to patients who present at Mercy Hospital with a heart attack or other significant cardiac issue. St. Francis doctors will have the ability to perform an intervention to open the artery through stenting when disease is discovered during a diagnostic catheterization.

The capability to restore blood flow and save the heart muscle for patients within 90 minutes is critical.

The St. Francis Heart Center at Mercy team will be backed by St. Francis Hospital cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists and others who have expertise in all types of heart surgery, including:

  • Coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Minimally invasive valve procedures like surgical techniques designed to treat certain cardiac arrhythmias or irregular heart rhythms
