The 82nd Annual Mercy Ball Raises Over $75K For Mercy Medical Center
Rockville Centre, NY — The 82nd annual Mercy Ball, a black-tie affair organized by the Friends of Mercy, was held in early December at Crest Hollow Country Club and raised over $75K for Mercy Medical Center. The Friends, founded in 1935, is as an organization of men dedicated to volunteering their time and efforts to raise funds for the advancement of medical and surgical care for the patients at Mercy.
The Ball, always held on the first Saturday in December, attracted 500 guests including three individuals who were honored for their unending support of Mercy. They included:
- Muhammad M. Ramzan, MD; Theodore Roosevelt Award for Outstanding Service
- Charles & Doreen Baldwin; Bishop John R. McGann Lifetime Achievement Award
- Therese McCormack; Sister Mary Nadine Casey, CIJ Award
A special ceremony with 96 high school seniors, and their guests, were selected as the Honor Guard and were presented to Bishop Andrzej Zglejszewski of St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre. This tradition originated in 1942, when young men took place for their older brothers serving in the armed forces in World War II and who had been members of the traditional military Honor Guard. Today, high school seniors continue to serve in this esteemed role.
The night also included a Donna Summers inspired performance, a one carat diamond necklace raffle, and dinner and dancing.
The 83rd annual Mercy Ball will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019. For more information about Friends of Mercy call 516-705-2618.
