Rockville Centre, NY— Leilah Faith Williams was born on September 20, 2018 at 6:09 pm at Mercy Medical Center... 650 miles away from her home in North Carolina. Her mom, Jennifer Williams, who was 38+ weeks pregnant, dad, Dan Williams and siblings Ava, Luke and Tessa had to evacuate their home in NC on Sept. 12 due to Hurricane Florence. Today, Mercy gave them a final send off as they gear up to head back south after spending the last few weeks in New York with family. Dr. Neal Bellin,, obstetrician-gynecologist, and Labor and Delivery Nurses Melissa and Barbara attended the event to offer their well wishes, as well as Mercy's Executive Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer Ron Steimel, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shan Ahmed, other nurses, staff and the news media.

Jennifer said “If you can make me smile and laugh during labor, after evacuating from a hurricane and not knowing the state my home was in, you get at least three gold stars!”

Tomorrow, Jennifer and the four kids are driving back to North Carolina to join Dan, who left early to assess the damage and get the house ready for the family.
