Mercy offers a comprehensive multidisciplinary team approach to women’s health with screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care all in one place. It's Breast Health Services center is staffed by highly educated and certified technologists accredited by the American College of Radiology, using the very latest equipment. Mercy's Bishop McGann Center for Oncology and Imaging provides coordinated multidisciplinary screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care at a single location, utilizing the most advanced imaging and minimally-invasive techniques for the diagnosis of benign and malignant breast disease.

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

Mercy has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The Center of Excellence designation affirms that Mercy has earned ACR accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound, including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. Those accreditations reflect the results of peer-review evaluations by experts which determined that Mercy has achieved high practice standards in image quality, the qualifications of its personnel, and the hospital's equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.

Molecular Breast Imaging

Mercy is the first in New York state to offer LumaGEM® Molecular Breast Imaging Technology (MBI). MBI is a proven, effective supplementary screening method to mammography, significantly increasing early detection in women who are at a higher risk due to dense breast tissue. MBI has been proven to detect breast cancers as small as 5 mm, and in 82% of cases the patient is still node negative, indicating that the cancer has been found during an early stage of the disease.

At Mercy, it's simple to arrange state-of-the-art screening and diagnostic mammograms. 3-D Digital Breast Tomosynthesis screenings area also available. Mercy offers next-day screening appointments, and same-day results, with radiologists available to read images in real time, order additional views if needed, and consult with their physicians as needed. All images and reports are available to patients' physicians via computer, through a state-of-the-art Picture Archiving Communication System.

Pink Aid

Mercy Medical Center is able to support breast health services for the uninsured and underinsured on Long Island thanks to a grant from Pink Aid. The grant supports complimentary breast cancer screenings, breast biopsies, secondary screenings like the MBI — an advanced screening for women with dense breasts — and more.
